Embarrased By Public Outburst On NCP Corporator Kalawati Mahale, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik Asks NMMC to Stop Vertical Parking On Garden In s

September 24, 2008,
After the residents of Sector 17, Vashi out-lashed their corporator Kalavati Mahale for failing to save a garden in Sector 17, Vashi, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik came to their rescue and assured that no vertical parking will be built on the garden.
Recently NMMC came up with the idea of constructing a vertical parking lot in a garden at Sector 17, Vashi, which is the only garden in sec 17 Vashi. Soma Kumar – a pioneer in the protest spoke to us on the need for open spaces.
When this news dawned upon the residents, they called for rallies to unite residents to fight against this anti-environmental decision of NMMC. At the meet held this Sunday, in a very embarrassing moment for the politicians present, residents attacked their Corporator Kalawati Mahale for failing to speak up for the cause of environment and residents when such a proposal was tabled at NMMC Standing Committee and General Body Meet.
In fact all the residents of Sector 17 present during the rally criticized NCP local leaders Ram Vichare, Shampat Shiwale, Congress’s Sudarshana Kaushik and specifically NCP Corporator Kalavati Mahale for being a complete failure. When we spoke to them about the public outburst, while Sudarshana Kaushik accepted their mistake, Ram Vichare feigned to acknowledge the same.
On the other hand, NCP Corporator Kalavati Mahale, who residents say hardly raises any of the Sector 17, issues blamed the residents for the problem. Clearly embarrassed with how the public attacked the corporator at this public rally, NCP began image correction and when a delegation of grieved residents met Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the leader assured that the plan for multi-storeyed parking would be cancelled.
This is one of the many instances that expose how several NCP corporators fail to work for the interest of the resident. Most NCP corporators work in nexus with contractors to moot up projects to get their own share of profits. Like in this case where the Navi Mumbai NCP Supremo Ganesh Naik had to come in to the rescue of the residents of sec 17. Hopefully the ruling NCP front will wake up to this before the next municipal actions before Ganesh Naik’s attempts becomes a case of a little too less, a little too late.

Environment Minister Ganesh Naik has stayed the proposed sand dredging operations in the entire Konkan belt—Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, saying that without a no-objection certificate from the environment department, there will be no sand dredging activity.

Warade warned that if the auction takes place on August 14, then the state government will invoke the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act against the erring officials.

Green Hope Brings Hope to Navi Mumbai by Planting one Lakh Trees

July 14, 2008,
With the aim of awareness amongst people about the need to plant more and more trees for a better tomorrow, Green Hope an NGO held an event to plant one lakh trees in the city.

Environment destruction is a major concern especially as in the name of development and progress; nature space is reducing by the day. In such a scenario if the minds that will work on development projects of tomorrow are taught the significance of green heads and preserving greenery, it would definitely contribute to developing minds that give as much importance to environment as to making communities. Bearing this in mind, Green Hope organization has taken the initiative of planting 100 trees in the city which started off at Rajeev Gandhi garden at sec 28, Vashi. The event was graced by State Environment Minister Ganesh Naik, Mayor Anjani Bhoir, Fist mayor Sanjeev Naik, NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik, Music Director-cum singer Shankar Mahadevan amongst other NMMC members. While many plant trees, there is very little done to safeguard it, to which the Minister stated that spreading awareness amongst people was the need of the hour. The plan of planting one lakh trees kicked off by the State Environment Minister planting a sapling on the occassion.

Better Late Than Never – Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik Distributes 7 crores to NMMC Contract cleaning Workers.

June 27, 2008,
It was a historical moment when with the initiatives of Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the cleaning workers of NMMC on contract basis not just got their one month demand of equal pay for equal work fulfilled but were also given the pending amount due till date.

This week Guardian Minister’s Janta Darbaar is a historical one as it made contract labors of NMMC the only ones across Maharashtra who were given wages equal to that of the permanent workers. And much credit of this goes to Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. Marking the birth anniversary of Shahu Maharaj, Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik addressed the thousands of contract cleaning workers present and announced that from now their wages would be equivalent to the pay scale of permanent workers. The Guardian Minister also distributed the amount that was due to these workers in the last seven months according to the new pay scale. Present during the Darbaar along with the Minister was Worker Leader Sharad Rao, Mayor Anjani Bhoir and NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata. We spoke to Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik during the event.

He added that the increased wages would bring relief amongst the contract workers. On the other hand, Workers Union Leader Sharad Rao expressed happiness on NMMC’s decision and the efforts of the Guardian Minister. According to NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata around 3200 cleaning workers would be benefited with this decision and NMMC would have an additional cost of 7 crore every year.

And of course for the contract workers it was the day they had waited for years. While Gaurdian Minister Ganesh Naik has brought about huge relief for the contract cleaning workers on the occasion of Shahu Maharaj Jayanti, hopefully now the contractors too would do justice and ensure that the workers get the wages they sign for on paper.
